experimenting

saw somewhere on the interwebs that you can make image transfers with plain old mod podge so of course i had to try it out. and then i thought i'd share. luckily i remembered to take pictures.

i cross hatched 6 fairly thick layers of mod podge onto some magazine images and a laser photo copy

please ignore the torn edges, i'm not known for my patience

i let it soak in water for a few minutes

i flipped the image so it's right side down and gently rubbed the paper away. i used my trusty finger.

you can see in some places i rubbed the image away which is part of the fickleness and beauty of image transfers

the photo copied image had none of the rub off like the one from the magazine.

then again, if you don't want to experiment and want foolproof instructions, go here

but what fun would that be?

work in progress

sometimes it's so hard to know when to leave well enough alone. do you ever have this problem?

a proper goodbye

this little mixed media painting was bought from my shop the other day.  i've had it for quite a while and it was always a favorite of mine. was i secretly hoping it would stay in my shop for good, dressing up my virtual shelves? i'll never tell.

actually i'm thrilled it will have a new life in a new home. i hope it makes it's new owner happy.

i thought i'd show you how i'm wrapping it up for its trip.

off you go little one!

new work

forest for the trees - a mixed media painting

forces - a linocut print

after shoveling about a foot of snow and a couple of advil, spent some time organizing my studio. there's still plenty to do (by plenty, i mean i've been at this for 2 weeks and i'm only half way finished). but i found an interesting way to use one of the many shoe organizers the previous owners left in the house when we bought it. you may be thinking this is sacrilegious - to use a shoe organizer for anything other than shoes. i can appreciate that sentiment but alas, i do not own enough shoes to fill so many organizers and i do have a very messy studio.

what do you think?

new tenants

a few weeks ago, as i was coming out my front door, i noticed all these twigs and grassy bits on the porch floor.  i thought it was strange but it had been windy the night before so maybe it made sense.  for a few days this went on, more appears after i sweep.  it must be the mail man or kids or... finally, out of the corner of my eye, i see this curl of blue from an old tarp blowing in the breeze and i look up.  this is what i see

we have robins nesting in our porch light.  they are very messy tenants.  we have taken to using the back door.

here's some new work in the shop
